Weeping Pagoda Tree - Styphnolobium japonicum

Description

The Weeping Sephora can grow up to 15 metres tall. It is recognisable by its slender, weeping habit, with drooping branches and dark green leaves that turn yellow in autumn before dropping. Its creamy-white flowers appear in spring before the leaves appear. This tree is often planted in gardens for its aesthetic appeal and its heart-shaped leaves, which create attractive shade. It can adapt to a variety of soils and climates, but prefers well-drained soil and a sunny to part-shady position. The Weeping Sephora is also appreciated for its resistance to disease and pests, making it easy to care for.

Origin

Weeping Sephora, also known as Salix babylonica 'Pendula', is a variety of weeping willow native to China. It was introduced to Europe in the 18th century and is now widely grown in many countries as an ornamental tree. Its name refers to its pendulous branches, which give the impression that it is weeping.
