Black locust - Robinia pseudoacacia

Description

It is characterised by its dark green, deciduous foliage, made up of small, oval leaves. At the end of spring, it produces pretty clusters of highly scented white flowers, which attract bees and butterflies. The flowers are followed by long, dark-brown pods containing seeds, which are hardy and undemanding in terms of soil and exposure. It can grow in poor, dry soil and tolerates atmospheric pollution well. In addition to its ornamental value, Robinia wood is sought after for its durability and resistance to various pathogens and wood-eating insects, but it is important to note that the tree is considered an invasive species in some regions, particularly in France, where it can compete with and crowd out native species.
