Katsura - Cercidiphyllum japonicum

Description

Deciduous tree: The Caramel Tree has soft green foliage in spring, turning spectacular shades of golden yellow, orange and coppery red in autumn. It sometimes gives off a sweet caramel fragrance at the end of the season. Growth: It grows quite rapidly, reaching a height of 10 to 15 metres with a similar spread. It has an elegant, spreading habit, perfect for spacious parks and gardens. Flowering: Discreet, occurring in March-April in the form of small, reddish flowers, melliferous and much appreciated by bees. Fructification: Small brown capsules develop after flowering. Bark: Grey-brown, it peels off in fine strips, adding a decorative touch to the tree

Origin

East Asia: The Caramel Tree is native to the mountain forests of Japan and central China. It has been present there for millions of years and has adapted to a variety of climates. Introduction in Europe: Introduced to Europe in the 19th century, it quickly won over garden lovers with its autumnal beauty and hardiness.
