Bee-bee tree - Tetradium daniellii

Description

The Honey Tree, also known as Euodia daniellii, is a tree that grows to between 10 and 20 metres in height and is distinguished by its wide crown, which can be up to 5 metres in diameter. Foliage: Deciduous, with large leaves consisting of 5 to 11 oval, pointed, dark green leaflets. This foliage takes on beautiful golden yellow and orange hues in autumn. Flowering: This takes place in late spring or early summer. Numerous small creamy-white flowers cover the tree, attracting bees and other pollinating insects. Fruit: These are brown capsules that release winged seeds when ripe. Bark: Greyish with longitudinal striations. Wood: Yellowish white

Origin

East Asian mountains: The Honey Tree is native to the mountainous regions of northern China, Japan and Korea. It grows naturally in temperate forests and rocky areas. Introduction to Europe: Introduced to Europe in the 18th century as an ornamental tree, it is now appreciated in gardens and parks for its beauty and melliferous qualities.
